This project was in response to the Penguin books cover design awards competition. The category I chose was adult non-fiction which required the cover of Dara McAnultys , 'Diary of a young Naturalist' to be re-designed.

The cover was designed in accordance with the competition rules, which can be found on Penguins website. My idea for the cover came after reading a chapter in the book, which describes Dara's favourite place - 'Rathin Island'. The scene described depicts all the wildlife Dara encounters on his arrival to the Island as he sits to "take it all in". I wanted this cover to appeal to both adults and older children and have therefore chosen to take a minimal approach to the design, with bold light colours to make the cover feel inviting.
